Good Manners Are Important

Be charming
If you can't be charming
Be personable
If you can't be personable
Call me
I can't either
and I'll beat the piss out of you
You miserable jit bag

This isn't a threat it's a promise
Think of me as a last resort
We all set goals, we all make plans
But if your mission is a mess
you just gotta abort

Call anytime
1-800 GET REAL

Hindsight

Of all the words in the English language
"should'a" is the most useless one
And I know it's a sin
but I'm gonna give in
I'm gonna put some eyeglasses on my buns
and tell everybody what they should'a done

This Can'T Be Dialogue

Although my baby and I are not pugilists
and we never ever brawl with our fists
we have knockdown drag out fights
every Friday night

Roundhouses to the ego
Sucker punches to the past
Draw tears, but don't draw blood
You never hear the one that hits you
But that's the one that gets you
The guilt comes down like a flood

Maybe, just maybe if we had a referee
The bout might be closer to clean
because sometimes I say things I don't really mean
and her language gets simply obscene
This ain't no sweet science
we'd be better off in silence
I'm sure our ringside neighbors would agree

Minor Keys

Six strings and a pair of wings
is that too much to ask?
What could ever be more fair
in a world that draws us close
but seldom cares
down, down the dark light

How you doing? Fine
How you feeling? and Fine
Still working? and finer still
How are you making out? Yes, I'm doing well

Where have you been? Here
Why were you hiding? I've been right here
I've been looking I've been beside you all along
everywhere for you and I thought you knew

Eight bars and a snappy little break
That must be what it takes
Figure it out on the first guitar
Get it right but never tell
Say it out loud, spit right out
and shoot it all to hell
down, the dark light, down

My Rock and Roll Lessons

When Jimi Hendrix died
I started sleeping on my side
I didn't want to drown in my own vomit

When Momma Cass passed
chewing a ham and a cheese
I said "Dear Lord don't let
that happen to me"

I don't want to die
no embarrassing death
I wanna be dignified
when I take my last breath

When Elvis Presly left us
I thought "What a fool"
so now I don't try too hard
and I never strain at stool

Steve Marriot got dead
when he passed out
while smoking in his bed
so now if I get wasted
if that's the rub
when I want to smoke a cigarette
I get in the bath tub

'cause I don't wanna die
no embarassing death
I want to be dignified
when I take my last breath

Da

I am different
I am strange
I am outside the normal range
of everyday human behavior

I am coming
I am near
I sail a ship I cannot steer
passing in awe of all I see

I am certain
I am close
to catastrophe and the holy ghost
I must save me
save me

Prayer For An Impending Disaster Circa 1975

Lord I've been trying to get myself together
I've made progress surely you see
So give me some time and some sunny weather
and don't let Skylab fall down on me

I didn't put it up there
I've never even been to that town
So when it falls, please give a call
don't let it pound me into the ground

Amen

Four and Three

Two days a week I'm trying
to stay out of trouble
and two days a week I'm trying
to get out of trouble
Catch me on one of those
other three days
and darling, we'll have a ball
