Informed

every now and then
a firefly of the future
tells me a story

Gun Control

Turns out that guns
lead to violence
and people killing
mostly just themselves
if the damn things
are just left lying around

However, tv leads
to vacant stares and
tv dinners
where the gravy
burns your lips and
the nuggets never get
warmed up enough

and if you eat enough
you can prevent gun violence
because your fingers become too
large to fit through
the trigger

Bobcat Fringe

Let's cut our hair

locks lopped off in hopes of
style and convenience

only because everything in the media
had announced it so
to look one of two ways

stupid or not
the dichotomy of breathing
intermixed with thinking

a miscreant's
entreaty

based upon the logarithm of dog drool
of other's crisis mind fux=

a cute bob with fringe
perhaps, a beehive to capture errant thoughts
in clouds of hairspray

like ricky lake eating more cake
like the earthy done shaky
like prickly pear sports shake
like trickling ear sweat bakes
like a crepe

just spend the time
emulsifying the generations
tell stories, freak out the other one
basically, have fun

Afresh

Never were words
so quietly and powerfully
uttered with my
breath

than when I
admitted that,
yes,
I do indeed
love you

and I will follow
and lead
and tread lightly
and run hard

be both teacher and pupil

on this sojourn
on earth with you.

We are now open to
the promise
of a shared future
through sunrise
and moonglow

moving with purpose
and fresh conviction
through the course of
all of our new days

there will always be
the thrill of our gaze

basking in the
pure lucidity of light
that illuminates
each other
from
within.

Ex Abrupto

Furtive
Closed-off
Your paramecium can not
invade my
paradigm.

Mow the lawn
and trim off the new
put it in a trimmings bag.

Hopefully our bodies
are ecologically sound.

It all returns to the beautiful
spinning
earth

but you will never again
be allowed to
invade my
mass-laden
earth-ridden
universe

Do-Gooder

Effort may be a true sign of devotion.

It comes, most beautifully, in the altruism
of little gestures
unconscious
yet loving...

sometimes it is forced, as in a smile,
when the last thing we want to do
is bare our teeth
behind upturned lips.

Yet we will anyways,
since the one received in return is usually genuine.

occasionally, we exert ourselves in ways
which we never would have
chosen
but,
ultimately
are for the fortitude
of the kin, the folks, the village,

and we are the true reaper
of the life well-spent.

Throwback

You are a mental giant but an emotional atavist.

Like the old cliche,
your forcefulness of personality hit me over the head
and you dragged me back to your dank, primordial mind cave,

By the hair of course.

And you also took me, consumed me and
made me bleed...
with my dark hair in your fists
your lips on my throat
all the while promising a
steady diet of wooly mammoths
a bear-skin bed
and the eternally-burning fire
on which we would toast teradactyl wings
and warm our dirty feet.

Only you knew all the while
you would eventually tire,
find another victim,
ban me from your cave
and toss me to
saber-toothed tigers,
having gotten exactly what you wanted.

Ignorant to the depths
of my unbounded devotion to you,
(what you once called my
candor and tenderness
with poetic grunts)
you are now doomed
to forever be concerned
only with your neanderthal needs
and your immature, primal
self.

My darling cro-magnon,
reflecting in the clarity of the sunshine and
inspired by the warmth of meat-scented breath on my face,

I have decided that
my priestess womb
will no longer be the petri dish
for your long overdue evolution.

An Ode, of Sorts

ethereal mist surrounds my soul

light in the distance is soft music.

whispers say,

                 "There is no danger"

an orchid grows in the mist,

                      the midst

fear not the light of your soul

you may grow in its presence

if you will allow us to flourish.

Vulnerability is a gift if taken as so.

break free

Xpat

stubborn at the most
unfortunate moments
and quick with a
flabbergasted wit

he ambushes me from
the alleys in his mind
from behind
where four strikes
are uncommon
and frequently
commented upon

let's try to ignore the
inane flattery and take
into consideration
three screwdrivers deep
the fantastic premise this
is situated upon

apart-heid
has rendered my fat
and substance unfit
avocados are for brains
still, lavender for calm
we come together
in spite of
differing points of
perspective

expatriated breaths
gasped and sighed at
in the dwelling I somehow fancied
as a home has suddenly become a
jail/reformatory/pilgrimage

a complex and refracted
reflected gallery of smiles
and countenances
not discourteous
simulateously entertained with quips
and the locking of eyes
with the neighborhood bulldog

he arrives again
with breath like linament
stale tobacco and promises
we bicker and yell

no promise as of yet has transpired
above a certain hell
of vacuous emotion

Messy

May has dawned
with wind and whiskey
and sideways glances

a rendered heart
and maybe a start
with an eye for details

i would love to see your
entrails up close

if they were spilt and split
with a sigh from the hilt
they would smile with a
turn from my hand
