An Ode To Lilith

He, the almighty, is ubiquitous, an omnipresent force

Lilith, the first woman – made from Earth - defied him.

He, the almighty, held no empathy for beings like her.

Lilith, the first wife of the first man – despised him.

He, the Almighty, came to know fear –
The extraordinary virility of her witchcraft troubled him.

Lilith, the martyr – deserted the splendors of Eden

Her buffoonery - her egotism disgusted him

He cursed her, “One hundred of her children would die every day.”

Her agony - her depression thrilled him
Lilith – the first wife, the first woman – lost in history

He, the Almighty – deceived the gullible into idolizing the spectacular him

Lilith, the queen, infamously a demon, covertly a Queen.

Eureka! She is the woman of all women and the enemy of him!

From Now On

From now on
I will dance as if on fire -
And when I say on fire – I mean sporadic dancing is the only form I know.
I am told I dance like a white girl
I look them in the face, eyes blazing.
Do I look like anything else?
From now on,
I will write as if I am Emily Dickinson, Virginia Woolf and Silvia Plath
And what I mean by that is - they suffered from the same debilitating illness I do, so maybe I can learn to weave what feels like a death sentence into something beautiful and life preserving.
I force feed myself drugs, this is the only way that I can make this wet blanket of hopelessness peel itself off of me. The residue of wet melancholy will never leave, but hey, when did I start believing in miracles?
I pray to a God I don’t even believe in, hoping that I will not end up with my head in the oven, confined to my home or water filled lungs.
From now on,
I will be a lioness,
I will not fall for the handsome price in the Disney movies I gulped down as a child, thirsty for the "idea" of love. I will not be the innocent, sweet, pure princess –
I will no longer be a wall flower, with innocent eyes, waiting in her high tower for a righteous prince to come to her rescue. No my dears,
I will be the dragon
Lungs full of fire,
Eyes full of desire
Fangs, waiting to pierce the flesh of any man who thinks I cannot save myself,
I will make the ground rock with my presence!
From now on!
I will be a ferocious shark within the sea of mass production
My soul, older than the fossilized bones of yesteryear
The trappings of regret and hope intertwine - causing a fuse so strong, so bright – that even I am blinded by its vehemence confusion.
From now on, I will scream -
I am no new soul,
I am no naive, fragile adolescent -
No, I’ve walked these roads filled with vile and contempt before
People and their viscous words fill my head – But they do not know
Their hateful words are no match for the distain and disgust I have for myself!
This soul has walked down a road of self-made abhorrence -
I can cross fire -
I can swim the deepest of waters -
I can climb the highest mountain –
Without batting an eye!
From now on –
From now on
From now on!

Swim With the Birds

Can you swim with the birds?
 I dance with the leaves,
As they move erratically from the branches that sway so steadily.
The weary stems trying so desperately to keep hold of their enthusiastic antithesis.
Oh, how grand it must be -
 to be the exuberant wind,
How the twine causes even the most dejected, festering houses to moan along to it’s voracious tune,
Causing their skeleton’s of rusted nails and tuckered wood to vibrate in meter.
Even the boisterous sea cannot help but dance in its most embellished way,
Turning captains green and their shipwrecked fellows white with fear.
Oh, let us praise the majesty of the wind
Let us swim up to where the wind meets the sea in their most congruent riptide
Let us swim with the birds,
Let us dance with the leaves,
And let us fly within the sea!

We Will Have Our Redemption

Police sirens are blaring
Outside my tuckered apartment walls.
The red and blue lights consume my room,
Provoking me – threatening me.
The sound – deafening.
It is the night, the best time to hide,
Under the cloak of the dark abyss -
Not even the stars and the moon dare to shine.
They are coming for us.
Those who are deemed too radical,
Those who are deemed too unfit
It began with the colossal wall,
Blocking our neighbors from the South.
Then, the seizes began – first the immigrants,
Frantically grasping onto their loved ones,
Cries of injustice filled the streets,
Bargaining, pleading, and falling to their knees in desperation.
Then, they went after people of color
Put in various sectors
Sweat camps, murder lodges,
The best way to extinguish them was to treat them like animals.
Force them to fight –
To water the seeds of hate
Teaching them to loathe each other.
This was a game to the higher ups,
To the privileged
With their pale skin,
With their saintly Christian views
Their black pin striped business suites.
The women were next.
Those who weren’t already in the slumps
Those who weren’t already corralled into buses
Those who thought they would be spared.
They were used as trophies –
As breeders, to purify America’s society.
Some were used for other extracurricular activities.
I can still hear the screams –
I can still hear their souls dying.
Only a few of us had escaped.
Only a few of us remained.
We are of different backgrounds –
Each escaping the fate handed to us by the superiors.
Shh! Barking joins the shrieks on the sirens
The hounds can smell us through the walls,
They hunt us down like coons, mouth’s salivating-
Craving, yearning for a bite of tender, impure flesh.
There are six of us –
Sitting inside this abandoned, rickety apartment –
Although the superiors have begun to separate us,
Although they have seeded in hate,
We have blossomed as a unit –
There are more of us,
Hiding, like vermin, between the cracks of the walls
Waiting, like rats beneath the city streets,
We – the people
The radicals- polishing our weapons
The unfit – spreading like cockroaches
The impure – rising like smoke
Will have our redemption!

The Man With the Fanatic Spectacles

His spectacles were fanatic,
The way his cool sea - blue eyes peered through them.
The way even they couldn’t help but gleam when he smiled.
The black frames brought more mystery to his beautiful façade.
Oh, how I would fall for his charismatic verses over and over again.
Oh, how his rhymes, like roaring ocean waves, could both exhilarate me and horrify me.
Like his catfish hanging helplessly on a fishing wire,
His eye beaming through the frames of his glasses
Joyous of his catch,
So I would bite the bait over and over again
Just to gaze on the man with the fanatic spectacles.

Never End

You tell me again that you love me,
You promise, “Not just for tonight, but forever.”
My dear, the stars swore their devotion to the glorious Sun
Yet, every night, they dance to the beauty of her crescent sister.
