Love without hope, is a rose without fragrance
Random musical notes, that have no cadence
An extinguished candle, by an unpromising wind
Where the heart panhandles, to a disheartening whim

Rhyme
You cross my path
With your sweet, cautious words
H e s i t a n t
Unpromising
in every step
But your smile leaves me
breathless
Your touch
Whirlwinds me
Arrows my soul
Tears my heart open
Will a new light ever get in?

I do not know?
The lady who serves counter
at the bodega knows my weakness for dry sherry,
a wordless gentleness between knowing smiles.
There is this connective tissue,
of an inappropriate and unpromising kind
that tentatively links to a reckless longing
not just for dry sherry,
but to a secret accomplice
who serves counter at the bodega.

Blank verse
Hope
like an old sick-dying man
who
hopes to get well and return to strength
hope
like a pregnant woman
whose
9 months is over but still no labor
hope
like a farmer
who
has planted seeds in a dry-unpromising land
hope
like an unmarried-single woman
who
hopes for a wonderful wedding day
hope
for hope is indeed dope.

Narrative
I am hollow, I exist,
The train that no one missed -
Or wanted to catch anyway.
I am here, I am alive,
Seeking any joy I can derive
From another unpromising day.
I stay and I remain,
Life in the slow lane
As time drives away,
A hit and run, don’t look back,
Keep your eyes to the tarmac
And hope and wish and pray
For better, always better,
A bottle holds a letter,
A message gone astray;
No one listens because no one hears,
The world folds in and disappears,
As you return to earth, to clay.

Verse
Feed me, Free me.
Free my heart and body.
Unbind me from this phase of blues
and unpromising associations.
Separate me from mornings of base
talk and dusk of drunk peers.
Annihilate my tolerance for mediocre
and bogus surroundings.
Feed my soul and thoughts.
Set me at the table of the wise and
deep ones,
pump me with the will and vigour to
relate.
Carry me to terrains where like minds
dwell.
'I'm ready', i scream
'a little more time', he says..
I wait and yearn.
