When I deplane, for missing luggage

have it regret every day
that it continued to make it rain
it's despicable
it's spineless, barely able
to stand and breathe in this world,
why let it harm another girl?
Do it before you realize

you once again,
it brings pain,

Sarah had wounded animal eyes whether she had been 
an owl, a deer, or a dog is unknown.
However, I know that she must be treated as softly
and quietly as possible.
A loud noise
A fragrance
A light touch
Might re-traumatize her
Approach her as a tiny violet which has been broken,
stepped on and smeared in mud.
I advise her teacher to approach slowly and cautiously.
And above all, no sudden movements or touches....

We decided on hand signals.
They got sillier each day.
Pretending to speak to each other.
Stroking our imaginary beards.

Sometimes we cawed or tweeted.
It drove our children bananas.
We did this in self-defense.
It frustrated them, causing them to leave.

It was the only way we could talk.
Have adult conversation
Without being interrupted
by our children.

Sure, they pout a bit,
but within ten minutes most of them are back.
So, it doesn’t permanently traumatize them....
