Flaring Out

Comets cut bedazzling streaks in time
with crescendos and solos divine.
Each meager planet probes with a wince
praying they don't fall within the pinch.

Solitudine

Of how many solos
                 a duet is done...
                with how much love
                 romance is made...
                 How much absence
                 and void is necessary
                 to obtain company...!?

I Wish To Be a Musical Instrument

I wanted to be
an electric guitar,
to vibrantly run my screams in
melodically riffs and solos...
Turning my pains into art...
But I'm just that... lone cello
how bitter and silent
dies of thirst in a corner
without performing any blues.... !

Beautiful Bella

Beautiful baby Bella
Grew into a greatly gifted girl.
She sang songs solely for soldiers,
Homesick for hugs from their honeys.
But Bella fell fast for a friendly fella,
So now she sings solos solely for him.

Solos Only On My Tuba

Do I write in the third person
or only in the first?

Do my ideas reign supreme
or do other ideas work as well?

Do I know I’m always right
or can someone else be right too?

Do I play solos only on my tuba
or do I play in the band as well?

When the Cardinal Sings

Listen to poem:
When the Cardinal Sings
David J Walker

The first alert of the
Coming dawn
Drawn in silhouette
Across the azure horizon

The Cardinals song
Sung in imbricate solos

Whose name does she
Sing
Whose spirit is carried
Across the morning sky
On her wing

I read the morning paper
To see if it is me

Chama Viva

Chama Viva

Eis a jornada
da empreendedora,
no sábado e sempre
em seu peito,
carrega a
chama viva,
transforma,
o que é pouco
em muito,
com a sabedoria
de um
mago antigo.

Cada passo,
uma vitória
em solos férteis
de sonhos
e esperança,
com mãos firmes
a navegante
segue com força
para fazer
com pouco
mais e mais.

Ode to Chuck Barry

The Father of Rock and Roll was not Elvis.
It was Chuck Barry, wild man from Chicago
He was the rhythm and blues king
His guitar solos and showmanship are legend.

Today we still hear some of his best songs on the radio.
Johnny Be Good, Nadine, Maybelline, Ding-a-Ling
Sweet Little Sixteen, Memphis Tennessee
He was amazingly talented, and marvelously fun to watch!

Everyday Noise

White noise echoes equally from wall to painted mural,
dancing like a whimsy wisp of width;
where waters drip and notes all slip,
sound patrols the minute holes that cause acoustic depression;
pizzicato strikes like bikes on blacktop every day,
leaving skids for little kids, loud scats scoop brats away,
with solos soaring boringly and duets dazzling dew,
it’s hard to not hear voices, different choices scream at you.

Thoughts of You In Blue

The widows
Poignant thoughts
Dreams and hopes
War torn
Distant past
Life's cut in
half
Cubby hole
Spiders web
Sitting all alone
Crazy maze
In a daze
Life stood still
 that
Very day
Days of bluesy
Jazz tunes
Miles made me
Smile some
Blowing solos
During
Halfmoon at
Halfmast in
Contrast
Still lifes
Ecthed in
Black and
White
Details of
Long ago
Brought back
To life again
Once
More..

Our Song

Haunting melodies caress the soul,
Riding eddies of spirit to enchant and capture.

Sharp notes to beckon, soft notes to cajole,
Hymns to hypnotise, harmonies to melt the melody.

Hidden rhythm within the beat,
Captures bodies and moves the feet.

Strident solos proclaim independence,
Supporting acts one for all.

Music in and music out,
The song is all around, embodied sound.

Shake, rattle, ring and roll,
Favorite songs the voice of soul.

Rock and Roll I Love It

Rock and roll,
I love it!
Banging drums,
Loud singing,
And hums.
Gorgeous guitar solos,
Crowds jumping,
And dancing.
Singing about,
The good times,
Rocking and rolling,
Swaying long hair.
Head rocking,
Show stopping tracks.
Rock and roll,
Was claimed a fad.
But it’ll forever last.
So play that guitar,
Sing that song loud,
A great American pastime,
And I’m proud,
To say today,
And all days.
Rock and roll,
I love it!

Resistance Is Required

We’ve painted your smile disarming
Your glassy marbles alarming
Ignored your feeble warning, your face blue
We made our very own papier-mache Prince Charming

In what false light you’ve been hung
Your dreams must in harmony be sung
No solos for your tenor voice, honey
We force your hand on the top rung

From wuthering heights we trumpet
On your trust we rudely strumpet
Don’t resist sweet crumpet, we know best for you
Into infamy now you gladly plummet

These Mornings

Maple and Cherry Oak
deciduous delight;
a new wardrobe.

Another marriage;
violent waterways
racing traffic.

Cremation of
fallen family
lingers onward.

Reincarnated
sweet scent--
Lavender & Lilacs.

Desiring exactly
what we despise
as dreams drown.

Twenty branches above
percussion solos begin
between wings while

lead singers gather on
electrical tightropes
of music notation.

Trade-winds whisper
as the ocean above
remains motionless.

Until next
December my
dear winter.
