A gaggle of geese in the Bronx
Were confused by competing honks
With traffic so slow
There's not much on show
'cept gander at the honky tonks...

Watch out for the heron, warned goose named Duce.
When he honks at you his spittle is loose!
How will I know him?
I asked Uncle Jim.
Feathers louder than Canadian Goose!...

Who learned how to talk from a couple of geese

goose loves his bright trike
legs too short for tall bikes
since he was born

A distant motorcycle drones
Fading away
“that” dog barks
It must be 8:15
A bus honks
A siren sounds
Jet engines overhead
A quick dream
The furnace kicks in
Breakfast!
Maybe pancakes?

Three High Haiku's
The dream to fly high
Scattered puffy clouds below
A goose honks to pass

He cliff dived a lot
No water, the jump was hot
The landing was not

First skydiver fall
Lunch packed, no chute, dropped the ball
That's not good at all!...

Premium Member Seeking Dreams
Leaving
ease of home,
I trek
Past rough lanes…
Feet bruised

Though nights rip,
my grit
to seek dreams
prevail

Almost drained
bus honks
like fate’s call

Morn breaks
granting luck—

From heaven!

Angst
Some girls have no need for a bra
And dread being seen in the raw
But some boys don't care
If bras conceal air
Providing girls don't tell their ma

Not many folk know that the Bronx
Is phonetic spelling of "branks"
It keeps her trap shut
No and if or but
Female voices just become honks...

it is a rainy August day in Kansas
dismal?
no, rather drizzle full
An exciting day
I am meeting Molly, my granddaughter
joy parades through my veins
at nineteen, I am thrilled she wants to meet her antique grandma
but she does
she honks and waves
cuter than the last time I saw her
which was a month ago...

Premium Member Bound By Convention
Listen to poem:
I engineered an intricate design,
determined to be action,
not thoughtful stasis.
But, isolate and distant --
a preserver of decorum --
formal, unexposed, and safe --
with bounds determined
by tight, sane strictures,
I did not struggle,
could not escape nor abandon place --
became, instead, a creature
habit-ridden: a cousin
to the circus seal
that honks a horn
for fish....

Fireflies
night sky brighten
sadden moods lighten
laughs and smiles all around
bare feet touches cool ground
summer nights hot and fun
what to do with just one
why not have enough for the whole world
tank tops and flip flops cover boys and girls
drive in movies and butter popcorn
time to go as Johnny honks the horn
what would we do without our fireflies
we would just stare at the blank night skies...

Grandfathers
I have outlived my life.
My son-in-law opens doors for me,
drags my oxygen tank around
on a metal cart.
I stop at every intersection,
waiting for honks.
I cannot see the lights.

Sometimes,
I go out to dinner,
alone.
“How many tonight, sir?”
“Just one; just me.”
I follow the hostess to a booth,
set for two.
She smiles at me as she removes
one set of silverware,
and I stare
at the empty space
in front of me....

Fast Food Near Me
She’s driving safely.
While I’m tapping furiously.
“Fast food near me.”
Tap. Tap. Tap.
An idea! An idea.
Scrolling.
That sounds good…
Red light, green light, yellow light.
She’ll eat anything.
Except what is in this three mile radius.
My eyes are strained from my phone.
As hers are from driving.
Tap. Tap. Tap.
A car honks, and I look up.
I see a bright sign to our left.
I put my phone away.
And point to the restaurant....

Morning Noises
Police and fire sirens blare
An early emergency somewhere

Neighbor’s water squeaking thro’ the pipes
Two cats clawing each other’s stripes

Traffic hums and honks, tires squeal
In such a hurry…what’s the big deal?

Mower of lawns and whacker of weeds
Garbage man missed: in-reverse beeps

Nearby pickup started and revved up loud
I’m not quite used to this urban crowd

Cell phone buzzes, again I slap the snoozer
I wonder: would I prefer a rooster?...

Destination
So when you are in my life.
And you have created a map with a star on the destination to your heart.
Know that I might get lost on the way, missing billboard signs and road signs.
But most importantly, missing exits to return home to myself when the traffic jams and honks are too unbearable to get stuck in.
Sometimes others' destinations to their hearts aren't always a road you have to travel on if it requires you to take roads you know aren't safe....
