I lie on crumpled velvet
pressed against the four corners of the earth.
My ears pick up chatter around me.
Chatter of my greatness.
Chatter full of lies.
Dirty, filthy lies.
They say I was kind
when in reality
I only focused on others when convenient.
They say I was dependable.
But I depended more on others
than they did on me.
The mourners finish gabbing
sharing their stories of foolishness and naivety
and together
they lower me into the dust.
