Ode To Waterfall
Numerous crags and chasms you jump across,
Seeing from afar, we find out your lofty source.
How can a brook or creek accommodate you?
You’re bound to form waves in the sea blue.

Evening skies polarized
Early end to the light
Eyes spy orb above crags
Eager pinhole cam shows
Essence, inverted page
Eureka! Welding specs!
Everyone have a look!

What memories and thought pools we swim in
Between two distant unreachable shores
A sandy future palmed and green

Originality
I get my nature out of books—
Literary valleys, crags, and books.

I borrow other poets’ themes—
Voyeuring their surrealistic, dangerous dreams.

Of love alone, I’ve evidence—
Data culled from close-controlled experiments....

Granite Knuckles
bare granite knuckles
grip the horizon
as whispy whimpy clouds
slide over them
the knuckles are moist
from buffeting the wind
whistling wheezily
through broken skin crags
liver-spot lichens
mar the grey skin
giving away the age of it
within...

The Torrent
Ever flowing
Over-bowling
Borne along,
     Again,
By class-five rapids,
A cataract thro’ jagged crags

There is danger here
Out of (my) control
Guided by Peace
Protected by Joy
     Himself
The mighty rush of God’s
Poured-out, turbulent love...

These eagles,
these creatures of
the High Sky.

They hatch in
nests of branch
and twig; nestled,
fitted into crags;
perched over
precipices.

Soon to soar,
but first,
they fledge,
they unruffle,
on thin-air
Earth.

So very like
our Dreams....

Inspired By An Ancient Poem
Under peaks cloaked in clouds, I climbed,
along gnarled woods and deserted tracks.

Are those temple chimes
   Coming from an ancient shrine?
Echoes of water rippling over rocky crags.

Sunrays speckle cool pines.
Where thin mist veils a deserted pond
I rest, and my spirit is sublime....

Stark and Majestic it stands, wearing a corona of clouds, that flows from behind and expands, giving you the feeling it's proud, of its crags and rugged beauty, that it spied, reflected, in the sea.

Can you hear it
   in the ceaseless pounding surf..
as the wind rails against the crags…
in the silence of the firmament?
Can you see it
   in a child’s trusting smile…
in the pools of morning light…
in a wing against the sky?
.
With whispered step, and open hand
   Hope unveils its shining face....

I Still Do Dread This Air
I do dread this air
Blown from the far side
of despair
With that still hearth
Rusting unburnished
Among those barren crags
Never to shine use after use
Living life to the lees
Though much is taken
Though many abide
Whose mere margin fades
While that great world
grows weak and old
I still do dread this air......

Springing from the highest rocky crags
Tiny treasures, splendid little jewels
High in the drifting blue alpine mists
Strong ladies, survivors of winters cruel

Soft yellow, palest pink and vanilla cream
Tiny bits of heaven, glistening like tear drops
Thrown with abandon on the gray strata
A rainbow promise on the mountain tops...

rugged cliffs
sentinelling rocks
     timeworn
          untimely memories
          insistently whisper

Cares, like forgotten whispers, nestle within the rugged embrace of crevices and crags. They seek refuge, veiled by shadows, their edges softened by time. Each fissure a secret keeper, each jutting rock a sentinel of memories.

In the stray lavender of twilight
as cactis' spindled obelisks
brush spreading lapis sky
a honeyed sun
holds tight
to desert crags
for a last glimpse
of fulgid sage
and adobe rainbow dwellings
sprawled in the valley.
I await the candle moon's
flickering smile
shining in gully water
and darts of starlight
glowing in my arid dreams....

Solitude
Mountains occupy my mind

I crave the solitude,

Upon their lofty heights I find

Peace, and lifted mood.

The echoing of jousting crows

A skylark's warbling call,

Sunshine playing across a tarn

I find such joy in all.

Out there on the mountainside

Is where I long to be.

Among the rugged crags and peaks,

I need no company....

The Escarpment
Above the venue of the lost
And the disappeared
The forgotten fall beneath the crags
Beneath a now and deep forever
Hanging onto the blade
Of the escarpment
Lost above the humming trees
And harrowed by sleep
They are lulled into this world of forgetting
Carried away by the wind like leaves
Their grip not strong enough
To be whoever they were to be...

giants through the hour glass

stride leviathan
upon the hissing seeds of mountains
curl toes, summer freed,
about the pillars of the world
whose molten bloom
faded millennia ago
and crumbled down to dust.

upon these ancient shores
ponder as you brush aside
these clinging crumbs of mighty crags
once, a time ago
we were almost dust
and they were giants....

Hearts Place
Where does your heart rest,
my love?
Does it rise with the tides
sent from ocean depths?
Does it ring with the bells
from St Patrick’s cathedral?
Does it carry on the breezes
sent across the Atlantic?
Does it lie deep within the crags
of the Grand Canyon?
Truth be known, my love,
does not matter where love lies
so long as it is shared with
the one you love....

rock love

it may roll
but it rolls
with them
it may freeze
but they don't
leave

indifferent
as a boulder
can be
they
still cling

without him
they wouldn't be

inanimate granite
something
to hang onto
that will never leave
what more
could lichen

Four Haiku Poems On Clouds
imagery, nature, sun, water, wind, word play

The mountains speak out
From under clouds soaring high
Light strikes down below!

Mountain ridges stick out
Crags and crevices shadow deep
Cloud cover adds frost!

Billowing white clouds
Rearrange themselves in groupings
Formatting anew!

The sun’s reflection
Sparkling the rolling wave tips
Sent by the strong breezes!...

A Portrait of Us
A pocketful of crinkled hope
and all the midnight yearnings...
As feathers from a bird of flight
increase his chance of landing
A tattered loyalty displayed
although it’s old and torn and frayed
A masterpiece in darkest blue
the eyes in the backround belong to you.
A mind distilled with tolerance
and dealings kept on ice
If you could turn the crags of time
backward it would be nice....
