Tear gas canisters and rubber bullets
are hurled at their direction,
yet they rise again and again,
like anthills cropping out from earth.
The rains normally beat them, but keep
on rising and rising from the ground…
In the 1970’s, merry mushroom canisters were offered by Sears Roebuck
Many of us put them into our wish lists, along with a sponge-holding duck later I learned that mushrooms meant pot, but at first I did not know
I cherished these canisters for their earthy whimsy; I truly loved them so….
Sears and Roebuck nailed the canister market in 1978
When they brought out Merry Mushrooms; they were great.
Every other kitchen in America probably had these on hold.
Or sitting on their counters, whimsical, big and bold.
These canisters were sold with matching pieces, sixty or more.
If you did not have them all, you were considered tight or poor.
There are Jaipur vegetables
in my new home,
Craisins, clover honey,
and maybe twenty different teas.
Pastas, Clabber Girl,
Real Mayonnaise and Agave Nectar;
things with names like
Kashi and Bumble Bar,
with canisters of cocoa, coffee
and Whole Foods Shake
vanilla flavored,
Green Vibrance (what is that?)
and Whey Protein Powder
also flavored vanilla.
But there is no vanilla,
and I'm searching for love.
Something written a year ago that I recently stumbled back upon.
