Eat Slow

Free yourself from the manacles of food and drink

Accede with God for a holy covenant

Silence yourself away from the mundane to pray and unthink

Temperance is paramount in this divine moment

Delirium

I accede with complete confidence at his very touch
As his warm smile greets my trusting trance
I close my eyes and inhale deliriously
Immediately our lips meet I concede
All tension is magically erased
Knees shaky and weak
I . . . hold on
Soft kisses
Surrender

Nothing Like the Fifties

Nothing Like The “Fifties” Miracle Man 8/18/2023 There once was a time political parties merely disagreed. Now neither party chooses to be civil until the other will accede. So with red face they wrangle awaiting another abate. Today, it seems disagreement, is synonymous with hate.

And So the Bullies Win

And so the bullies win

when
one stone
causes
an avalanche,

when
attention
is focused on
them

when
we accede
to their
demands

when
we give up
our lunch money
our words
our right

to write
to speak
to share

our hearts
our minds
our souls

when
we withdraw
into the darkness
of the bully’s
shadow

when
we allow them
to perceive
gentleness
as weakness

when
we submit John G. Lawless

Amongst the Dregs of My Cups

I do not, amongst the dregs of my cups,
Consider you worthy to be the theme
For my untutored scribblings.
There, Madame, there: I put you
In your place, amongst the detritus
Of my life, the forgotten effigies of life,
As she should be lived.
Yet, you do not acquiesce to my intentions,
And re-emerge into my consciousness
To disturb and argue for attention and
Writings.
I am weak, and accede to your importuning
With versification to placate your demands,
To show my love.

Drained

Loosely the transparent leaves of memory fall
Limply I accede reminiscent of a limp rag doll
Slowly I invoke this insistent yearning inside
This plethora of countless emotions derived
Incenced by the summon of one depraved
Sadistic venom inciting abhorrence enraged
Progressively anointing obvious camouflage
Spinning uncontrollably in a neverending gyre
Vicious piercing screams so enragingly dire
Jaded I surrender to this uninhibited emotion
Sentient I resume my unkempt decision

Quagmire

Adroit in this quagmire so meticulously infused
I yield yet the ground beneath me moves
Alone in a room of people I stand confused
Attune in this menagerie so materially abused
Seclusion notwithstanding I relinquish, capitulate, cede
Devoid of qualm I succumb daftly to the lure revealed
Subdued by my rivalry I prevail, endure, exist
Simply a nuance of distinction I concede permit
Infantile I accede yet somehow circumspectly survey
Surreptitiously I allocate the acquisition of the day
