Premium Member Not That Great
Listening to oldies I fell asleep late
And dreamt I was back in 1958
Jobs were denied due to race
Women all knew their place
I awoke to recall things weren't all that great!

Never did share the same bed

Doing so would have been sheer hilarity
Pity, such a notion back then was a TV rarity

Harden Street, 1958 (Part Four)
con't

The damn memories
are still so clear.

And now I am alone,
the only one left
because my brother
sliced his neck
in what has become
a family tradition,
that is, to leave
of your own volition.

If I could only get
the reruns to quit
maybe my goddamned
head wouldn't split

and I wouldn't feel so

fragmented

broken into a million
disassociated pieces
in a fugue
until it ceases....

Bikini bottom
All sponges rotten
The people have left
Though the holes remain

Swim suites in celebration
Propaganda in every state
Love that bombed a hate
Because of their guns
They are the great

Still poor bikini island
Where once the people thrived
Now thanks to that Uncle Sam
And his cheerful children
That lowly hydrogen weapons

The island is left in radiation seasons
And all those soldiers could scream was
God bless our nation…...

Daddy
this I dedicate to you Daddy
Billy Joe Scott
04/10/1958-
02/20/2020

The eyes I've seen
My entire life
Are smiling back at me
The laugh I've dreamt
Is contagious
As I knew it would be
The words of wisdom
My ears have needed
I'm tireless just listening
And the love that's there
In that heart of his
Was mine all along
The kiss at night
Upon my cheek
Is forever emblazoned there
And the blood in his veins
Same as mine
Gives a history of me...

Premium Member Miss Kneeland My Hero
I learned to read
thanks to Miss Kneeland
The principal at my gradeschool
Who had taught my daddy and his brother
Using a mirror
She was an old maid
About two hundred years old
With white hair in a bun
She looked severe
But she was kind
And she taught me to read
using a miror
Understanding what I needed
in 1958
She was a pioneer
who understood dyslexia
even though there was no name for it
back in the day.
I thank her for the gift of reading every day....

Premium Member The Loving Kind
We love we cry we laugh
we are the loving tree
we grow and we know
I'm brown he's creamy
we are broken but we are
one our love tormented
since 1958 in VA.
our love hated taunted
buying groceries we are
the loving kind silky brown
blending over vanilla here
in America what is right
what is civil what is kind
we are different my heart
dance with my mind here
today the very same pain
racism exceptional loving
what we bring to each other
is love we are the loving kind...
