If I weren't afraid, I'd face the huge crowd
And I'd share my poetry in Times Square
Adulation comes hard for those who are shy -
I'd be the shiest of all who were there
If I weren't afraid of the adoring crowds
I'd bless the whole world with all I have written
I'd tell of cowboys who've never been thrown -
Ladies of whom the love bug has bitten
Why, I'd share my sonnets of days of old
And Rhymes of lovers alone in the shade
Limericks of wee people in the bog -
All that and much more, If I weren't afraid
If I weren't afraid, I'd say, "I love you"
I know the world loves a poet by half
But, oh, my days would be done don't you see
If your answer to me came forth in a laugh
