Forgotten Argument
She sees but black.
He sees only white.
She sees the day.
He sees the night.
Both firmly convinced
without any doubt
that the other knows nothing
of what they're talking about.
She will not bend.
Neither will he.
She says, "It Is."
He says, "It can't be."
Both are stubborn as mules.
Both do remain strong
for only one can be right
and the other, dead wrong.
Two hearts that once loved,
now distant and weak.
Differences unsolved
they no longer speak.
How can two walk together
unless they agree?
Their pride kept intact
as they both are set free.
Now aged, looking back
'cross the shadowy years,
she can only recall
his face, through her tears.
As his memory now finds her
still there in his heart,
and neither remembers
why they grew apart.
She saw only black.
He saw only white.
She said, "You are wrong."
He insisted, "I'm right."
Both went separate ways.
Now, too late, comes the doubt
as they wonder… "What was it
that we argued about?"
