Sunlight Breaks

a cold bitter wind
	with stinging drops of rain
bits of bitter cold
	blowing into my frozen face

slowly my steps go
up the hill of man-made stone
my warmth is torn from me
by the coldness of the world

steel gray clouds race overhead
	fleeing upon the wind
hiding warmth of the sun
	all lies frozen about me

crystals of ice with cutting pain
	now blow into my face
and the wind more bitter now
does cut me to the bone

dry brown leaves skitter by
with the sound of tiny claws
borne quickly upon the wind
	their life all stolen away

dirty snow in shadows lie
	about clumps of brown grass
scattered across the land so wide
	where my path does lie

my steps do slowly drag
	to the summits peak
where my weary eyes gazed down
to the long road that before me lies

the way twists back and forth
no straight path is for me
slowly across frozen land I must go
	seeking where I would be

before me does the land fade away
	under frigid gray clouds
that the road I pass upon
	continues on below

in the distance I can see
bright light spearing through the sky
upon the mountain peaks so high
	rising over cloud shrouded land

I do quake in the journey's length
the many steps so very long
if I'm to reach the patch of light
I see so very far away

weariness does leech my strength
fatigue does weigh upon my frame
hope does fade with each weary step
	taken on this gray day

would that one could simply stop
	this journey then set aside
another path there be to take
	to another place to be

yet does light before me shine
upon the mountain peaks so high
though they lie so very far away
on the path that I cannot see

I sit and watch.

Changes come so slowly.
So, vigilance is required,
an attentiveness to minutia.
There are layers of wardings
erected between
the watch and I.

Thoughts, which flit and skitter
fight for outward movement.
Flesh that is too weak to hold attention,
leans toward the walls of cracks;
where even the plaster pulls
from its sheaf
and the dirty
double paned glass
waylays the eye.

Enthralled by the changes:
rain to sleet, to snow, to hail, to rain,
the maple buds leaving
their pointillist, rouge-lacquered shells,
dropping like the wings
of an emergent butterfly; I root.

Nights of storm-slapped branches
unfurl orchestrated by wind –
How the maple now dangles leaves like earrings
from the tips of the smallest twigs.
Tomorrow they will open
to palm the morning breeze
and welcome the spears of Lilly of the Valley,
as they emerge overnight beneath the mother tree.

The deer have eaten the tender,
green, tongue-rolled, delights of Hosta and Day Lily,
but they are stalwart plants and will return.
I’ve watched and watched but not seen the deer
though I have seen their bedding spots
among the mulch beneath the maple
in the winter and their hoof
prints in the snow.

Today, I will watch
temperatures are rising
and soon there will be

lilacs.

Premium Member Ideas From My Dendrite Village

Rapid ideas sprinkle out of my dendrite village,
Flowing down my shoulders, landing on the best of days,
In kilter skelter felter welter milter belter jagged piles
in crazy, zany, silly, dark, ugly, horrible, unnatural, weird ways.
I watch them form little armies. Some skitter off into the kitchen walls.
Others slither back up my legs, trying to reinvent themselves.
None want my help, so I walk into the living room.
Some are laughing hysterically, thinking it is a game.
A couple of them hit me hard in the middle of my lower back.
They are giant jumpers, trying to get back into my skull.
Good luck I think, knowing my imaginary dendrite village well.
If there is one thing she does not allow,
it is access to repeat offenders.
Best to lie down on a page and let me
Draw a cartoon around you or put you into a poem.

Dune Perdue

Updraft lifts limbs, leaves scurry like mice exposed
Mother Nature shakes shorebreak, incline imposed
Gnaws at sand buried tree toes gnarled, spit polished
Hourglass chamber sugar dwindle, dunes demolished

Churning chant casts a melancholy spell, people powerless
Moan of manic Manager’s anger depicts dreary dourness
Man on the Moon cheese puff cheeks chew mushy monsoon
Rain runs through town, to be trapped by typhoon

Form of parading peacock, pigment stripped, fan feathers vibrate
Look - at - Me Leuca’s lazy turns spur first hurl of weather irate
Fancy fowl foxtrot gathers gusts in her skirt skitter spin
White witch whips wind, water waltz whirls, wild chagrin

Hummingbird hurricane hovers over ocean, dizzily dragged to occult
Sect stretches elastic strap string - tied to tornado’s tumult
Brash as a bastard coconut afloat on Baltic Sea, bashes calm ground
Leuca retracts tail regal, regrettably her force flung coast bound

Cranky current circus tent cyclone, lions leap out of hoops
Lost roof iron roams rogue across roads while Princess Leuca loops
Serene above storm, she surveys scatter, stricken war worn love lorn
Tree tremors drip torrid toll, feet attach fresh turf, in readiness reborn

                12th March

     Thankfully only a tropical low
              hit coast of Oz

Pursuit

Something about my odor
Perhaps attracts the slimy rats
Gnawing at the slim remains of my flesh
The tendons stretched as strings
I am, by all means, a meal
Eyes, beady, twitch to follow my figure
Across dimly lit doldrums

Perhaps I am the rat
Falling into the trap just to steal the gouda
And skitter off, back to my hole
The cats, chasing and prowling
Always so close, yet out of reach
Preying and praying for only a taste

A mother cat’s tongue
With which they groom and pamper
Lure and comfort the simple child
Blithe, though not naive
To the textured strokes of mother’s preening

The clock hanging swings in measure
Tick tick tock
Three years, two years, one
The mouse runs up the clock
Long conceived dreams
Not so far, they seem
It is only a role
For whom the bell tolls

The Ghosts of Shade

no one sees them
as the veils begin to shift
and night falls

ghosts begin their walk
high heels tattered and worn down
jeans stiff from two days wear
jesus dangling between their breasts
at the corner of a downturned mouth
spit and a cigarette gather

jittering and itching they rub their arms
awaiting the next rush and run YEAH !
when the cops are around ? like rats
they scamper and skitter into the shade

will-o-wisp's they arrive and depart
and into unknown destinations they travel
for moments of ecstasy with new and old
'friends'

the hours draw thin the air turns moist
day is coming, and like vampires
they withdraw to the shadow of light
until the darkness echos once again

Kitty, Kitty
where is my sweet snugly Kitty?
               You're full of mischief, but witty;
my furry fur ball so pretty.

     You're so pampered with chasers and teasers;
smarty skitter critters catnip cat please-errs.
You love to hide and stick out your paw
striking at anything that goes by, not to mention
purposely lying down in my way for attention.

It's Christmas and we've brought in a Christmas tree
into our home and underneath the tree,
a pile of beautifully wrapped presents waiting to be opened!

You've claimed it and won't let it be.

It stands tall up against the wall
with balsam pine scent branches that call
to you. You sink you claws into the scaly bark
and climb and hide within the branches.

A glitter reflection of light catches your attention,
those little paws can't resist slapping
               at the blinking
lights, silver tinsel, and colorful ornaments.

Oh, Kitty, you've taken one too many chances.
You've gotten too far-out and bent the branch
               losing your balance,
toppling the Christmas tree causing an avalanche
of colorful ornaments to the floor!

Frighten, you zoomed out of the room
          and hid under the bed.

     Kitty, Kitty
where is my sweet snugly Kitty?

While Skeptic Attempts To Comprehend the Legacy of Jonathan Edwards

Alternately titled: Get out of my head mister chatterbox!

While inside me noggin legions
