Premium Member Athaliah

She hailed from the kingdom in the north named Israel.
This woman must have had her beginnings in hell.
She was wicked princess of Ahab and Jezebel.
Intemperance nearly led to great Judah’s death knell.
A heathen worshipper of idols and deities;
rule over God’s people made the worst of travesties.
This wife of Jehoram was a despotic monarch.
Her son Ahaziah’s death made her the matriarch.
For six long years ruling from the throne of Judah,
the nation’s only queen; her name was Athaliah.

She killed all her grandchildren hoping to rule alone.
Only infant Prince Joash would be spared for the throne.
He was saved by Athaliah’s daughter Jehosheba.
This princess was married to the high priest Jehoiada.
They sequestered the grandson of the queen for six years
with a nurse in the Lord’s Temple allaying all fears.

After seven years, Jehoiada gathered his forces.
In addition, the king’s support came from all sources.
The high priest said, “Our King David’s line must continue.
We should depose this wicked queen and then start anew!
This perverted usurper has much blood on her hands.
Here is your rightful King Joash the Lord God demands!”
Jehoiada proudly held up this seven-year-old boy.
They crowned the young king amidst the overwhelming joy!

Proclaiming the ascension of a new king quite loud,
Athaliah soon would hear the cheering from the crowd.
The queen then shouted, “For whatever is the reason
there’s a new king’s coronation here? This is treason!”
Athaliah appeared, and her arms the guards would seize.
They were ready with their swords as she was on her knees.
The priest said, “Do not stain with blood the House of the Lord”.
So they took the queen outside, and put her to the sword.

She was the most disgraceful woman in history.
The likes of her never existed previously.
Her name will live forever ignominiously.

Mentioned in both 2Kings and 2Chronicles in the Old Testament.

Hand of a Clock

28 years of life
I've experienced life and death
Contemplated suicide
Thought about how it would feel to take my last breath

On my death bed
Eyes turning from brown to black
My visions are blurry
On the verge of having another panic attack

I didn't realize what I could be
Couldn't diagnose my own mental state
Couldn't escape my own insecurities
Cried because I was too scared to face my own fate

I fell into the bottom of the lake
Buried by rock after rock
My worst fears became a reality
Moving slowly like the hands of a clock

Tears poured down when I saw the expression on her face
Grabbing my hands and pulling me in
It was like the pain had been sucked out of me
Knowing I could turn to her if I felt this way again

We prayed together
Prayed to God with love
Prayed for a second chance
Knowing our loved ones will continue to look down on us from above

Return of the King

A scrabbling clawing frenzied roar
Responds to trumpet call
And bleeding hands tear wood and nails
From sanctuary’s cloistered halls

And in that darkened vale of fear
The fearful hordes await
With cries for absolution
As they press toward the gate

With righteous hand and flaming sword
Doth Justice make divide
Right to those who heeded call
and left who never tried

For in the light the oath foretold
Returned to claim his own
From death and grave to liberate
Reward for each a throne

The light from aeons in the void
Breaks desperation's hold
The promised grace of sacrifice
Of innocence once sold

Angelic choirs in joyous praise
With rapturous voices sing
O grave where is thy victory
O death where is thy sting

Amazing grace once gifted me
And gratefully received
Has nurtured fed and watered we
The promise have believed

My Deepest Passion

The world wears the shroud of sin and death,
Its inward eye engulfed in darkness of unfaith,
Blackened with despair of deliberate rejection of Christ
Whose Agape Love manifested on the cross.
Gripped by the prince of darkness the inmates stroll in pleasures,
A game ‘twixt life and death is on roll.
Multitudes of God’s image tarnished by ‘sweet’ bitterness,
The only prey laid at everyone’s doorstep
With every calculation of hellish clock,
Winding and rewinding the conscience of mankind.
I behold souls fall into the chasm of darkness,
My heart bleeds at the death of the souls
Who could have confessed Christ in life;
But their denial has trapped them to blackness.
Can the souls on earth be saved?
Yes, but their confession of the Son will save them.
Let my soul send a supplication unto Heaven.

Victus

"Victus"
By M. Taha Effendi

(Didactic)

Amidst the gloom of night's dark shroud,
lurks Death in far corners of the shade.
To vanquish my fears to God I bowed,
And death shall find me... unafraid.

Amidst this vale of tears and pain,
my heart in life's robbed solace bled.
God gave me strength to stand again,
I found peace in His words I read.

In pleasures and crime my life is spent,
with sins the wretched soul is weighed.
But God's love taught me to repent,
He pursued me everytime I strayed.

It matters not how dark the past,
how much the evil takes its toll.
Darkness thrives but never shall last,
The Savior redeems the conquered soul.

Henley)
