With my dear spouse I'm very much in love.
'Tis truly a union sealed in heaven above!
O'er the years we've traveled a lot and seen many things.
We've watched our family grow and the joy that it brings!

For her wedding ring, this poor boy bought the best he could afford.
Alas, the stone was so minute, when she saw it she was floored!
She twirled it on her finger, saying "Surely you jest!"
Even my future mother-in-law was not overly impressed!

I promised her that one-day I would purchase a larger stone,
When funds were more plentiful and my chagrin I could atone!
I remedied that situation nigh our fiftieth anniversary as I recall,
But for some reason she was not thrilled with my solution at all!

I arranged to have a HUGE stone placed on our cemetery plot!
This was a terrible case of bad timing that she has never forgot!
She said, "That's not exactly the kind of stone I had in mind!"
(I thought it a favor for easing the pain should she be left behind!)

We now laugh about that escapade that has become family lore,
And o'er the years I've tried to atone by giving her diamonds galore!
I've been called the last of the romantics and I suppose that is so.
Shucks! I'd get her the Hope Diamond if I had enough dough!
