Description of Triveni or Allahabad known as Sangam city
The moment you see the holy mingling
Of the river streams Ganga & Yamuna, dear letter,
You can make up your mind to take a rest here,
Before you deliver my message to my beloved dear.
The holy water of rivers Ganga and Yamuna,
Would be flowing with the enchanting noise of kul kul,
And its shores would be shining like silver,
When Sun rays would be touching its sand particles.

Patradoot in Hindi was originally written by my father late
Dr. Amar Nath Kapoor in 1932, when he was imprisoned
by the British, as he was fighting for India's freedom
under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi. After India’s
independence as a true follower of Gandhi Dr. Amar Nath
Kapoor left active politics and devoted rest of his life in
writing easy mass literature and wrote many Dramas,
Poetry books, epics. All his other literary
works were mainly written from 1955 to 1990.
He left this mortal world in 1994.

DESCRIPTION OF MY BELOVED’S PLACE ALLAHABAD
How fertile is the land of my city Allahabad,
That produces brave humans like Gems,
Who give deliverance to save,
The suffering mankind, dear letter.
That postman will take you promptly,
On that pious land of Prayag, dear letter,
And you will get the chance to get free,
From the imprisonment of the postman’s bag

On your way dear letter, you keep enjoying,
The enchanting wine of nature’s beauty,
Till you reach the holy mother river’s place,
We all know by the name of Triveni*.
Somewhere on your way, you would listen
The enthralling sound of Dholak*,
And at some place, you may see,
A newly wedded bride moving on a Palki*

*Triveni. A place where three river streams meet. Generally used for the city of
Allahabad, where our great holy rivers Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati
used to meet at a point known as Sangam.
* Dholak. It is the Indian hand drum called dholak. It is a very popular folk drum of
northern India.
*Palki. Is a small wooden cabin carriage, which was earlier used for carrying
one or two persons from one place to another. Generally it was used for newly
wedded brides, when she moves from her father's place to her husband's place.
The entire cabin hangs on a long bamboo which is carried by 4 - 6 persons. It is
still used in some villages in many parts of India.

Deserted villages of poor and suffering villagers,
Would fascinate you to stop and look at them,
Somewhere you would find farmers sitting in groups,
Talking or listening the stories and consoling each others.
The beauty of green forests, would charm you dear letter,
Ahead you would find gardens, decorated with flowers and creepers,
And you would be enchanted to see Krishna* like village kids,
Amid the herds of their grassing cows and sheep’s.

* Krishna. Lord Krishna is a deity worshipped across many traditions in Hinduism in a
variety of perspectives. In His childhood he used to move around playing his flute amid
the herds of cows.
