Eventide

Of which country, sunset-lit
Eventide, out west
All that is native to it
Moveless, soundless are.

Age'd, withered, like unto
These folk, parkland benched?
"Insofar as shows we two
For tawny frogmouth
Perched a dead branch, camouflaged!
With grump's stare, afar".

Premium Member The Sounds of Nature

For Many years unable to identify
this haunting whoo whoo sound
Could it be an insect or a bird up in the trees
An amphibian by the creek perhaps ?
or something, else not identified, rising from the ground

The hoot was mostly early morning but sometimes through the night
unable to get vision of this creature
perhaps through camouflage it kept itself from sight

The mystery, finally it was solved
in the middle of the day
When the haunting hoot erupted,
not too far away

In desperation as a result of an attack by a marauding crow
the sound was emanating from a desperate immature creature
A frog? no not really but part of the name,
of a bird, that's how it does feature
In appearance it much resembles some owls
Its called a Tawny "FROGmouth"
a name with several vowels

A few metres from our house there are up to four
perched upon the same branch roosting
and sleeping through the day
They are nocturnal feeders, intermittently the branch is vacant
as they opt to stay away

Tawny Frogmouth

One look. You smile, you nod, you fall for him
Eyes enchanting, breathing dead bark of tree
Showy singer, poor nest, pretentious whim
Yet, expert in stumping, purrs when with glee
Takes up parenting with love, face never once grim
So uxorious, love-rich. Why ours not so be?

Premium Member Crazy Poem

Johnny jonquil jerry justified jilly’s jeu jeu bee
Dilly dally Doolittle dodged debonair simon legree’s degree
Freakish freddy frogmouth forever frolicked footloose and free
Michigan mike’s handy hardy heart hovers over a wild monkey

Photogentic photons prance prettily in posey’s poignant plea
Sparkling sprinkling sprockets on a special soupy spree
Verigated visiting venomous vines vying for an upside down vee,
Neopolitan negativity knicking nora, knocking knibber’s knee

Tricept’s trepidation tripping towards tutu bubu trees
Hampton’s heavy hyenas heading home with loud heehees

Haughty
naughty

dirty
Murty,

small nose,
fat toes.

Girl lip
did whip

put down
cause frown.

Thought smart
dart dirt

insert
to hurt

bigfoot
hard put.

Frogmouth
big drouth

cake soap
for dope.
