Premium MemberA Zoo Inside My Poetic Brain Today

couplets and goblets are not costly or fine
doublets and snubblets are simply mine.

words parade in my brain and do their back flip.
Adjectives and adverbs give me a tiny bit of jazzy lip.

there is a cadence to my poem today I see right away.
The prepositional phrases are on top, getting in everyone’s way.

What about the nouns? Are they doing anything exciting, poet?
You mean the circus, monkey, clown, and popsicle throwing a fit?

Yes, there is a zoo inside my poetic brain today for sure.
My muse is throwing out words like lollygag, and cow pie manure.

I roll my eyes as other words come sliding out as if in the sea….
Who is writing this stuff? I no longer feel my ideas are from me.

My muse is laughing her petootsie off, kicking her legs in the air.
Verbs like swirling, twirling and flicking give her their holiday stare.

I swear to the mythology gods who live in the clouds above,
Writing down words all day long is something I truly love.

Five Doublets About Life

How to Start My Day
I like to start my day
Drinking coffee is the way

Meeting my fate
I met my fate
on one fateful date

Dreaming of love
I met the love of my life
In a dream, she became my wife

The world is a strange place
Every day I turn on the news
Watching it 24/7 I get the blues

Donald Trump Dreams of revenge
Donald Trump Sitting on His Rump
Thinking of his revenge, just being Trump

AMERGIN
FIRST AND LAST
I am a tear:in tragedy's fear
I am the hope:when power cannot cope
I bring forth life: from the world's strife
I am the peace:that will never cease
I am the fire:in love's desire
I am the light: in blindness sight
I am the grace: in repentance face
I am friend: who but I
Sees the beginning from the end
AMERICAN DOUBLETS
THOUGHTS BEHIND A BURIAL CORTEGE
We,like annual flowers,fade,then die
As clouds evaporate up in the sky.
ALONG THE GARDEN PATH
I brush a tall primrose in early bloom
On the evening breeze a yellow perfume
O PRAY
O pray that we like Jesaus B
That others wonder Y
His Peace,His Joy,His love, they C
Flow out from U and I

After Keat's double quatrain 'O Grant '

Bard's East Side Recitation

ya can't recite a sonnet
without a union card
we got rules here ya know
now move along,
you're not da bard

ya can't be a narrated narrative
neither an alliterative comparative
voiced onomatopoeia sounds like a panacea
but the aesthetics don't fit the phonetics

ya can't be a couple-a-couplets
droppin' duo doubles as doublets

ya can't be a Limerick either
now ya don't look Irish neither
so, authentic you ain't
don't make no complaint
got no chew but yer one last incisor

ya can't get on the open-mic
an' recite jus' anything ya like
it takes rules and forms
to fit into da norms
without causin' a riot or strike

so jus' be aware, we got rules here
acrostics will get cha put down
Iambic pentameter - is the wroong parameter,
and the villanelle - don't go over so well
your calligraphy don't mean nutin' ta dem - or me
so jus' know, how we blow...
'cause, youse ain't da bard
