Confession of a Cruciverbalist
By Elton Camp
The crossword puzzle’s part of my day
Can I stay mentally alert doing that way?
Because some experts recommend
That much time I regularly spend
Hoping that activities such as these
Might ward of Alzheimer’s disease
From New York Times deliver me
Of such frustration I want to be free
For usually am inclined to abhor
Words I’ve never seen before
I look at the answers the next day
And still don’t know what they say
“I solve it in 15 minutes,” some say
That I view with complete dismay
Say that you work them in ink?
A bit too confident, I surely think
That’s impossible for this old hick
With the easier I’ll have to stick
Enough challenge even they give
Words that only in puzzles live
