My Tan Secret Is Wood Stain

People are constantly asking me the secret to my tan
I laugh and reply I get it from a can
I tell them they can achieve the perfect tan too
They guess it's probably the summers over the years with the highway crew
The human skin is smooth, it has no grains
The secret to my tan is wood stain
They watch as the water just repels off my back
I've tried them all, the best is Minwax
They look at my teeth and ask if I use it on my grill
I quickly reply, you need to add some Thomson's Water Seal
The label warns prolonged exposure may cause skin cancer
I firmly believe since I'm not a lab rat, wood stain tans are the answer
Even beach goers are jealous of my skin tone
I'm a Daywalker but darker than a Redbone
I should have never coated my face, now I feel it is affecting my brain
Now I am bathing in Murphy's Oil Soap to preserve the tan from the wood stain

Five Water Balloons

A man owned five water balloons,
That he had kept as souvenirs.
He stored each one in its own box,
Where they'd survived for many years.

One box was made of platinum,
Studded with Rubies, all around.
Inside, it was lined with ermine,
That's where the red balloon was found.

Another box was made of gold,
Bejeweled with diamonds, round about.
Within, it was lined with velvet,
The yellow balloon's box was stout.

A silver box held another,
And there were emeralds set therein.
The box had a satin lining,
And the green balloon dwelled within.

Then there was an ivory box,
Set with sapphires on every side.
It was lined with the finest silk,
The blue balloon was found inside.

And last there was a wooden box,
Its creator was quite adept.
Skillfully carved from knotty pine,
That's where the pink balloon was kept.

So when you look at every box,
And the riches of which they boast,
Which of the five water balloons
Do you believe is worth the most?

For these balloons are much like us,
Within our homes, fast cars, and frocks.
We measure one another's worth,
By the treasures that form the box.

We value wealth and position,
Covet beauty, power, and fame.
If someone has what we desire,
We raise them up, and praise their name.

We build a box like those above,
And lock it with a golden key.
We hide the truth within that box
Where prying eyes will ever see.

We choose our boxes every day,
And often do so, far too soon.
What does a box have to do with
The worth of a water balloon?

Fresh Water

Fresh water is a rare resource in this great orb of blue
but needed for survival by the folk like me and you
We use it in some foolish ways as though we never see
that it can end by over use which leaves us water free

We use it to flush all our wastes and cultivate our crop
we wash our autos, fight our fires, and watch the levels drop
we fight each other for enough to do just what we need
not caring if there's nothing left for others, due to greed

We don't collect the water when it falls out of the sky
we need to catch it for the days when everything is dry
we should store up the water which would run into the sea
with little treatment it is good to use for brewing tea

We bathe in water from the tap that we could even drink
we give it to our household plants and never even think
that they could use some water not quite good enough for us
and water that's not potable is better for a flush

A small change in our piping may be all we really need
to get a less fresh water there for watering our seed
eventually we'll thank the Company who sets it up
because we'll have fresh water still for filling up our cup
