Caught By Big Surprise

R-ise of the beacon begins,
O-n twentieth December;
S-hadows have disappeared,
A-s you get up from slumber.
L-et Monday night turn
I-nto a sunny Tuesday;
N-ew dawn has broken,
D-arkness fades
A-way.

A-llow the moon to go,
R-ays will warm your heart;
C-old chill has vanished,
E-ven haze and mist depart.
G-reet the morn with mirth, as you open both your eyes;
A-im to meet your birth, to be caught by big surprise.

Free Verse Ranch

Hear the clip-clop of iambic beats
Sounds like Shelley with a side of Keats
Is that the scritchity-scratch of a goose quill flickin’
Or just the tippity-tap of some mouse you clickin’..?

So you a prophet poet, regular Marley meets Dylan
Writin’ about oppression and unjust killin’
Shootin' the Sheriff with a Reggae song
Inspirin' your generation with a sing along

A shot of tequila with a wedge of lime
Saddle up and bide your time
Every line don’t need to rhyme
I can give you a million examples

You don't seem like the lyrical type
Kickin' cold turkey with oranges ripe
That's the fruit that rhymes with nothin’
Fresh squeezed it's good for somethin’

Citric flashback, Tang for the brain
Hyperspace wormholes one cannot explain
Sun dippin' below the rim of a rhymeless plateau
Cow skull and cactus, a timeless tableau

In the twilight gloom, a weather-beaten sign
Free Verse Ranch is the place to dine
Gorge on rhyme-free wordplay victuals
Linguistic linguini and cage-free visuals

Specialty of the house: lemon chicken couplet
With a side of mashed onomatopotatoes--plop!
Gravy sloppin’ down slopes like molten lava
Washed down with mugs of fresh-brewed java

Buzzards circlin' the sky in a lazy ellipse
Moon moseyin' in for a total eclipse
Flee in the dark, take a steed for a ride
Jump the split rail fence to the other side

Leap back in time to a buzzin' hive
Looks like the vortex, circa 1995
Can barely think amid the din
Perfect time for the ‘shrooms to kick in

Tie-dyed girl where I left her spinnin' in place
Band still playin' a trippy Drums n Space
But how strange that I cannot feel my face
How did twenty years vanish without a trace?

Tumbleweed twirlin' down the rutted street
Empty rocking chair swayin' skee-reet skee-reet
'Taters still steamin' like a mini-volcano
Room reeks of whiskey stronger than Drano

Spilled orange juice tricklin' a fly-food slurry
Someone cleared outta Free Verse Ranch in a helluva hurry
The clip-clop of iambic beats, Sheriff on my tail
He wouldn't shoot an unrhymed man, would he?

My Jazz, My Elegy

Reet peteet
go the feet
in Silk Shiny Stockings
toe tapping
knee slapping
Dizzy's beat with Hendricks' words ...
the Poet Laureate of Jazz, dear Jon.

Feel the funk
laid down by Monk
sway with Bird's Just Friends,
those sounds that sear
through time and heart strings.
You'll never hear
another era as
syncopated as that of the Duke.

Gone Miles away now
on a Col' Traine ....
(please don't go)
with only a few left to know
the Strange Fruit sung out of
Billie's soul
whether Strayhorn or Holiday
they've all gone away.

In pregnant blooms,

In bright plumes,

Dancing thru long

Please God With Obedience

P-lease God with obedience
A-llow your feet to walk in His ways;
M-ake His words your priority,
E-ven if you're in a wrong place.
L-et the Lord be glorified by following His will;
A-lways wear a humble heart, beating every sinful thrill.

G-od gives His blessings,
R-eceived by those who bend;
A-ccept them with gratitude,
C-ount them without
E-nd.

A-nother dawn has broken,
R-emember the day you were born;
L-ife of you goes on,
I-n June twenty-sixth morn.
G-reet the day with fervor,
U-se your faith and patience;
E-arnestly lead a new life, please God with obedience.

Door To Sweet Success

D-oor to sweet success
I-s open for you to take;
V-ictorious journey in life
I-s not free of heartache.
N-either door to sweet success nor window of opportunity closes;
A-iming to randomly give the much needed chances.

L-et the door to sweet success
A-llow you to taste the win;
B-e determined and hopeful,
I-nside deep within.
A-llow September twenty-sixth to shine,
G-reet the morn with gladness;
A-s you begin to enter into the door to sweet success.

Spring Is Coming

Spring is coming
Prepare the earth ahead
Raise the flowerbeds tall
Inch in the sun high and bright
Niche the shadows on the wall
Greet the morning light.

Image a garden of flowered opulence
Saturated with blooming rainbow beauty confidence

Crocus come first, white, purple, yellow, blue
Opening the way for daffodllic dreams and tulips parodies
Metered by the songbirds cry, twill and coo
Indigo irises will sway dance reveries
Neither sleet nor rain nor mix delay tweets
Gather round in awe the wonders of earth beneath your feet.

Creation of the Maker

D-ay second March morn,
E-ventide loses its gray;
L-ong and lonely night
I-s just fading
A-way.

M-idnight moon passes by;
E-arly dawn shares the light;
R-ain and haze have ended,
C-oal clouds become white.
A-fter the twilight is gone,
D-ark shadows do the same;
O-vernight smoke clears the air, to let the sun burn its flame.

G-reet the sky with a smile,
A-dore the beauty in view;
R-elax and see the scenery
C-olored with pink, not blue.
I-dentify each and every wonder that amuses the beholder;
A-ll of them that amaze you are the creation of the Maker.

Open Your Life To New Start

J-ust open your life to new start,
A-fter the night goes away;
S-imply begin with a prayer,
M-aking it a beautiful day.
I-t's time to open your life to a brand new beginning;
N-either eye will turn blind to each and every blessing.

G-reet the morn with hello,
A-fter the darkness is gone;
R-ise of the sun has begun,
C-onspiring with the dawn.
I-t's nice to open your life to another ray of beacon;
A-lthough there's a storm ahead, better brave the horizon.

A-llow the hope to stand
B-etween your mind and heart;
D-ay twenty-fourth October,
O-pen your life to
N-ew start.

Greet the 27th Day In September Morn

I-'ll let you hear the wind whispers
S-oftly beneath the white clouds in the sky,
M-inding the joy on your birthday;
A-ccept my warm wishes and greetings
E-specially wrapped for you,
L-osing not these lines along the way.

M-ake your day so wonderful

G-reet September morn so beautiful,
U-nload the stress so harmful,
M-eet your friends so thoughtful,
A-im so high to be successful,
W-in the fight so masterful,
I-nspire your heart and soul,
D-rive hard to reach the goal.

I Remember Your Birth

L-et twenty-ninth December
A-im to meet the dawn;
A-llow Thursday sun to come,
R-ising above the horizon.
N-ew morn has broken, bringing freshness to the day;
I-t erases the Wednesday night, as the shadows fade away.

C-old chill has vanished,
A-s well as the haze;
R-aindrop has turned
I-nto a red beacon's face.
A-llow my acrostic to meet,
G-reet and wish you mirth;
A-s the dawn is shining, I remember your birth.

Greet the Morn With a Smile

G-reet the morn with a smile,
L-ips that grin in gladness;
A-llowing you to say hello,
D-enying the deep cold darkness.
Y-ell with a smile in the morning, saying the grace from the sky;
S-hout and let it all out, early birds are flying high.

M-erry month of warm July,
E-very seventh early morn;
R-ise of the sun has begun,
A-ccepting the day you were born.
N-ew dawn starts to break, leaving the dusk for a while;
A-nother moment to welcome, greet the morn with a smile.
