Best Daughterjourney Poems
I took a bath
And gently held my breath
To see where from you came
My caesarian scar
Bore the moment you were taken from me
So suddenly, to release us both from pain
I signed a sheet
At 6am, gas and air
Still reeling in my bed
I am surprised my signiture
Bore intelligent reading
God knows I was out of my head
Yet the 12 hour labour
Saw a name on paper
Written so clear and true
I had done my best my dear daughter
But in the end, I had to give my consent
For others to bring your life to you
The journey to the theatre
Felt so short
And yet so long
A crowd of people
Were around us
They even put music on
I cried to them
Is the pain going to stop now
Is that needle our way home
Within seconds
Your journey was interupted
But you were never on your own
I wondered what you must of felt
Travelling on this journey
So sure you would make it through
And suddenly as you get a step further
The whole experience is stopped
And suddenly you have no more to do
Your tiny body is eased out
As you struggle to make sense
Of what is happening and why
You are in the world now
Not the way we planned
And heartbroken, I don't hear you cry
Instead placed in their arms
This tiny face reaches mine
So wide awake and not a tear on display
Your beautiful blue eyes
Seemed to tell me in an instant
Don't worry Mummy, I made it ok....
Alone for the first time
Since the labour wards
Beckoned my name
'Take a bath' they said
This will help
To calm the pain
For a an hour or so
I had recaptured my body
Away from strangers eyes to see
In that wonderful time
It was just the two of us again
You and me
The big mirror to my left
Seemed to urge me to take a look
I saw a swelling belly perhaps for the last time
Nervous and scared
Lovingly I patted you
'Tomorrow your tiny hand will be in mine'
I wondered what lay ahead
Would the night be long
Would my own Mother's words be true
When at last you were born
The pain would be forgotten
As soon as I looked at you
By now, it would have begun
Curled in your warm surroundings
Feeling comforted by my heart
The effects would have taken place
Your journey to life
The first time we would be apart
How your little body
Would scramble and shift
Unhappy to be moved from where you lay
Though you kick
Try to fend it off
Life is coming, its showing you the way
I wanted to savour the moment
To be alone with you
Before the journey took us both by surprise
I just couldn't believe
This time tomorrow
I would say 'She has my eyes'....
A single drop of tear from your eyes
Shines like a diamond on the satin cheek so white
More valuable than any prize
That single tear on that cheek so white
As it meets ruby lips so sweet
And hang from the edge with its brilliant sheen
Many a heart misses their beat
When it hangs from the edge with its brilliant sheen
Down it rests on those pearly hands
Innocently winking begging to be felt
Incomparable to any in sky or land
This innocently winking tear begging to be felt
So many a questions raised by this tear
A journey travelled a journey over
Much of cheer and much of despair
As the journey is travelled and now over
Dedicated to my daughter
