"This Old Elf" is a children's song, sung to the tune of "This Old Man".
This old elf,
He built toys.
He built toys for girls and boys.
With a great big hammer
And a great big wrench
He built toys at his workbench!
Bonus activity: Ask children if they can think of some other tools an elf might need to
build toys.
The sheets of paper
smothered with the ink of the fountain pen
smudged on it are words
of an older generation
young cannot comprehend
the parchment does not say it loud
how old it is, it can be seen
bound inside an old book
inside the grayish dark room
with a cover that has lost all strength
the stories are still protected well
in the old men's head
they read it out to their children and grandchildren.
Quaking, and shaking, Then Breaking his back !
Poor Mr. Milton Marlitack.
Don't beat your sticks !
Don't play your tricks !
On Mr. Milton Marlitack.
What a sad old man..
Quit your attacks !
On poor old Mr. Marlitack
You scream back."NO !",
Then, "2.. 3. GO !"
Start hittin Mr. Marlitack !
You all scream with sticks
as you fight with picks
and cover him Head to Toe with ticks
and as poor old Milton slapps himself
in hopes of removing the ticks..
You throw sticky bricks !?
"Ten points if it sticks !
on Mr. Marlitack !"
Children! Children!
Why must you act like such creatures?
"..Sorry we behaved that way..
Thats just what happens to substitute teachers"....
Every shop is decked out in holiday reds silvers greens
At Shelby's there is a train in the window
running through heavenly-soft hill and vale then
beyond a long tunnel - to this rustic old town
with post office
barber shop
saloon
and the Elmira Hotel
A sign says "The town Goldspoint was a real town
way back when"
It doesn't say when just
"Way back when"
And.....................
This is very fascinating because..........well..........
I think of Christmas "Way back when" as so mysterious
Suddenly Nearly delirious Imagination peaked
Curious
Why then
after a haircut
sarsparilla and
hot bath in the old Elmira
Hearing the whistle feeling the steam
I hop aboard ride her round the bend
I’m not like all the other cards
Here in this old deck
I haven’t got a partner
My life’s a total wreck
I saw two bathing beauties
And even two doughboys
Two doctors and two lawyers
And two kids with their toys
Two cowboys and two cowgirls
Two kings and two queens
Two of almost everything
And everyone it seems
If you’ve got two, you’d like to hold them
If one, you’d like to trade
But pray that you don’t pick me
You don’t want this Old Maid
