FISH THINK TANK
Any aquatic creature will know that
Fish feel they are kings of the sea.
Their arrogance is cold and palpable
Because they are so numerous - many more
Than whales, or squid, or lobster.
But any thinking fish knows that phytoplankton
And foraminifera and countless other species
Easily outnumber fish, and are the true royals;
And that even these multitudinous fellows in turn
Realize that hydrogen atoms, electrons, and photons
Are virtually limitless, and feel no microscopic arrogance
About their regal position in the universe.
Thinking fish are appropriately humble fish.
