Youthful Stars
The youthful sun, the youthful stars
The smiling moon in days long past.
Our steps round fires warm and bright
In youthful days and enchanting nights.
Boys in groups, girls dancing shy,
We talked about books and how to fly,
And ate mintinti and drank palm wine,
Then back in play and back in line.
Thousand seasons past, no more groups,
Each to himself, days in ceaseless loops:
Pain now edged below every eye
All waiting same for their day to die.
