Youth

Youth is like a fire burning bright
Who's licking flames glow in delight

Burning fiercely with great force
Full of life, with no remorse

Or thought of dying

Then suddenly, the fire's heat,
Lessen to a slower beat.

The fire is now getting low,
And comforting embers start to show,

Embers that linger on,
Until all flames and heat are gone,

As we lay dying.

Thanks for the food for thought, Shirley... I think it's an individual thing... The fire in my belly burns brighter at age 72 than it did at age 52 or even 32... Now 22, granted, the fire was blazing away... So, you never know... :) gw

At 85, I still have fire in my belly but lack the energy and enthusiasm of a younger woman, which I find frustrating. But as you say. Gershon, you never know. Thank you for your comments; I look forward to them. Take care, (I am going off now to fan my fire, lol )

Thank you, Deb Did you mean the licking word should have been flickering? I am pleased you liked the poem. I feel like I am scraping the barrel a bit with my poetry of late. Take care, Shirley
