Notes About The Poem

Author's Notes:  I wrote this "Septet" today, entitled: "Your Beauty Is," in honor of my wife of over 23 years -- Ingrid.  The Septet poetic format consists of a seven-line stanza of varying meter and an AA BB CC rhyming sequence in the first six lines, followed by a final asymmetrical line for special emphasis (set off from the symmetry of the original rhyming sequence).  For me, as a poet and writer, "Beauty" and "Love" are both to behold and cherish.  Both of these states of being or attributes together constitute a most special feeling and a powerful emotive force in our lives.  (Gary Bateman, October 11, 2014) (Rhyme Septet poetic format)

Your Beauty Is

Your beauty is a most precious flower
Which signifies our love by the hour;
Your eyes twinkle most bright like stars high in the night;
Your touch is gentle, exciting, and feels so right;
Your scent is enchanting and your skin is so soft;
All of these make me think of you darling—so oft!
You are my beauty and my only true love in this life!

Thanks Terry so much here. Your words are very kind. I'm glad you liked this write dedicated to my wife Ingrid. (We live here in Germany.) I am very blessed to have her in my life. I am just about to post a Shakespearean Sonnet ("Your Kiss") here today also dedicated to my wife. If I focus on her I can better write romantic verse. I look forward to your poems too!! Best!! Gary

Robert, Thanks again so much for your review and comment here!! It sounds like we are both of like minds when it comes to "writes" for our wives. My wife, Ingrid, likes it when I venture out of the dark realm writing and when I ply my poetic talents on lighter, emotional topics. Best Always!! Gary

Hi Jan, Thanks for the read and observation here. Glad you liked this one!! I'm constantly now experimenting with different poetic formats and various different subjects. Liam and I decided to work together on some projects. He likes the sensitive, emotive themes and he's exceptionally good with them. Best Wishes, Gary

This is so romantic and what a very nice way to honour your wife! Yes, I have no problems seeing and feeling what you express in your poem is real and true love. Perhaps the emotion us humans feel strongest....... This is lovely! All the best, Gry

Gry, Thanks for your read and your most gracious comments!! I will do some more of these. I don't want to get tagged as someone who only writes dark themes. I actually write on whatever interests me at the time. Yes, love is the strongest emotion for us humans, and the best one to be the recipient of. Best Wishes, Gary
