YOU TOLD ME

You told me you could never leave You told me you would never say goodbye You told me you never wanted to be free But you told me a lie—just another goodbye Your words were empty, your promises all broken You had me believing, but now I just cry Your ‘I love yous’ were just lies you told” Trying to forget but my love just won’t die Blinded by love – so happy was I Until the day your love proved to be a lie I loved you—I still do, it's true You told me and then played me for a fool We had promises and dreams to keep That’s what haunts me when I try to sleep You wanted more—so you walked away And with your new love you promise to stay You told me You told me And told me again Our love’s forever, forever without end But your words are empty, your promises dead You had me believing—now I’ve lost my head You told me again—and again I believed Now I am broken, broken and deceived We were to be married, life together to share Friends tried to warn me: be careful, beware Now you’ve found another and no longer care Left me alone and helpless with despair But two can play just as well as one I’ll play this game until it’s done All’s fair they say in love and in war But you cheated when you walked out that door You told me You told me And told me again Our love’s broken, brought to an end
