Notes About The Poem

This poem is about the suffering a person endures when they are in an abusive relationship. Too scared to say anything, staying silent for safety reasons until they crack [ no one sees what goes on behind closed doors]

You Scared me

This poem is about the suffering a person endures when they are in an abusive relationship. Too scared to say anything, staying silent for safety reasons until they crack [ no one sees what goes on behind closed doors]

You scare me with your words. You scare me with your silence.

You scare me with that certain look; you scare me with your violence.

You scare me when we go out; you scare me when we are in the house.

You scare me into saying nothing your like a cat playing with a scared little mouse.

You scared me into saying that you were never wrong; and you were always right. You scared me so much that I can hardly sleep at night.

You scare me with the text you wrote And in phone call with what you said.

You scared me into having sex, and you scared me when you pinned me to the bed

You scared me when you caught me running out the front door. You scared me when I thought I was dying after you beat me on the floor.

You scared me when I was in the hospital, and you scared me into telling me what to say. You scared me when you said you would kill me if it tried to get away.

But now I am in prison, and I am not scared anymore. You see, I stopped being scared. When I left you dead on the kitchen floor.

A poignant write. So awful to live such a life, but many do. You did well with this. When I was on the grand jury, I heard many awful stories.
