You Lie

Poetic verse and gleaming eyes Dripping sincerity so benign From practiced gestures So rehearsed That you believe yourself I nod and smile To help you through Your elaborate fabrication laced with guile All the while, through it all, you never thought I knew Eroded trust and confidence, built on a house of sand But never did you fear or suspect That my heart might be broken at your careless hand Believing that you loved me was too much to expect So go your way And take your words; hollow sharpened stones I have no use for what you say You’ve left me all alone.
