You Know What I See

I see how life tares you up - Up so high, there is no air - I see how tears stain your face - They sting in the cuts with no grace - I see the color of your skin - Treated as a crime every now and then- I see the light inside your eyes - I only wish that was why the powerful was blind- I see the trees that bare strange fruit- Unable to pluck, they’ve lost their youth - I see the dreams that fade away - Because we don’t ask them to stay- I see the life that has been missed - I see a mother's last kiss- I see a moment fade away - I see the strong plea today- I see the change that can be - If only I would see you in me-
