Notes About The Poem

You Hold the Other Half of My Heart

You hold
                      the other half
                               of my heart.

         It's yours eternally, my dearest,
even if you decide one day
                                    to desert me.

Keep it if or when you bid your final...
farewell; never give it back to me
                            under any circumstances!

        You'd think you'd make me
whole again if you do, but I'd feel....
                            so incomplete.

An intelligent, expressive, effective metaphor, that delights in a sad, poignant way. This poem is worthy of higher placing.
