Here’s an actual new one. Penned today while watering my yard. I call it
“Think Again My Friend”
I When I was a child,
I spoke as a child
My speech filled with wonder and hope.
Curiosity, love, and passion for life,
Played recklessly with every note.
.
Then grew I into a careless boy/man.
And when I spoke then,
I thought I knew all that had been.
Geez ...
I still kinda wish,
That I didn’t know now what I didn’t know then.
But it didn’t take long,
For me to think again.
Sure got it wrong,
More often than I’d like to admit.
That old river Time,
Had some unforeseen bends.
An unending cast,
Of lost family and friends.
So when I speak now it’s of loss and regret.
My nemesis time,
Unyielding it’s grip.
“No one gets out alive”,
It sarcastically quips.
But I’ll go out swinging my friend in the end.
If you think I won’t,
You'd better think again my friend.
.
Ha.
Yeah right.
.
Social media bravado,
Just uncovered my soul,
In truth many times I lay crying,
In the grip of time’s ruthless chokehold.
So where do you stand,
On this journey we’re in?
Think you’ll come out unscathed?
You better think again my friend.
These are the things I think about now and again.
.
I tend to speak more softly now than I did then.
A bit more willing perhaps when speaking,
To think on it again.
I’m confident of the Cross and the power therein.
The One hung on that cross,
Paid for my sin.
Now I remain,
Well hidden “in Him”
He gives life and not death,
And it’s more than a trend.
And in spite of my fears,
Let me speak more now of Him.
If you think me beaten by time,
You’d better think on it again my friend.
