You Are Always There

You are always there when I need you
Hiding behind the scene until your due
There are times when you are not even a thought
Not a glimmer is caught

The joy that surrounds me causes you fear
You prefer not to be near
Things move at a gentle pace
Time holds promise firmly in place

We know that this feeling surely will sway
The happiness of the moment will eventually give way
If you would only leave me alone
If you can’t watch, then please go home

We both know you are due
For you despise when there is no thought of you
Then you appear
The darkness seeps into the atmosphere

The joy diminishes in deliberate fashion
Taking with it any sense of passion
You are close to me and need to own me
Darken my thoughts and pull me to sea

You are always there, even if I don’t want you
You are not my friend, with the darkness you spew
You can’t bear to see me happy and at peace
You are always in the background ready to release

"You are close to me and need to own me Darken my thoughts and pull me to sea" This is how it is with so many who want to extinquish the light in others, but sometimes we do it to ourselves. This poem reminds me of both.
