Yesterdays Discards Going Fast

Listen to poem:
Yesterday’s Discards Going Fast David J Walker As soon as this pandemic is over I am going to wander The isles of an antique store And buy something I didn’t know I was looking for It was closed for a while So that those searching for Something from their past Would be safe from the today at hand And, the owners both knew there would Be a grand demand for the discarded things Of the past Come get them while they last Yesterdays discards will be Going fast

"buy something I did not know I was looking for". I smiled so hard when I read this. I have not been in a store for ten months. I would LOVE to feel I could do this.

Thank you, Caren. I love the connection to the "Antique" things resonating from our youth. "Antique"???? really?

Greetings, David. I love the flow of this poem. The concepts it raises are thought provoking, such as scarcity. The line of being safe from the day at hand causes us to inspect what we cherish, and in what ways. Final stanza gives readers beautiful fun rhymes, dancing all the way.

Thank you Sigrid. If only we could be "safe from the day at hand".

I love browsing in antique stores. "...buy something I didn't know I was looking for." I love that line, David. It often happens that way...we come upon something we just have to have. If that's you voice, it lends to the poem for it's quality.

Thank you, Jenna. I love browsing antique stores too. There seems to be a story in each item. Some of them really speak to me. And, yes, that is my voice. Thank you for the kind compliment.
