Yesterday Vs Today

I'd like to make you all aware
This world could use some loving care
Please take this opportunity
To read about my saddened plea
It's not like it was before
When people never locked their doors
Neighbors would just walk right in
A stranger became your new friend
These days people live in fear
There is danger everywhere
Children aren't safe anymore
With weapons brought inside school doors
Each day a woman's getting raped
While neighborhoods can not escape
The pressure of more gangs and violence
Leading to more deaths and silence
Hopefully all people will listen
About the things that I have written
And try to help me with my plight
To change these things from wrong to right

I remember the days of innocence as well. when we didn't lock the doors. when we would take food to our neighbors or visa versa. when we would give rides or logging to strangers in need. when bad news was a natural disaster rather than mans inhumanity to man. I too look forward to a world of peace and harmony. enjoyed your poem.

Yesterday was not materialistic. We didn't have government interference in family matters. We worked and earned what we needed or wanted. As a kid, I walked home alone in the dark. Neighbors were family. Times were tougher but times were better.

You have written a poem that has perplexed mankind for all eternity. And it all comes down to the question of "WHY". Why does it happen? Why can't we do anything about it? Why are we subjected to it through social media. Why can't we do anything about that? Why are we told that if we don't want to see it, just turn it off? Why are we told not to fight it but to except it? It's a question for the ages. But age is terminal. Thanks for making me think, Rockman

Such a good rhyme with a meaningful message. I think once government gets out of the husband business, as in welfare and more dollars for each kid born, then families will make a comeback with self reliance and self esteem leading the way.

Keep on writing and we will keep on reading, someone will listen. And that is your and our triumph.
