Yes You Were the One But

Yes you were the one
My stars, my moon, my everything.
The loveliest person on the face of the planet
When you courted me. Not showing me any of yourself.

But what a pretend self you showed me.
A lovely, lively, fun-loving, happy-go-everywhere self.
The man with whom I fell promptly and utterly crazily in love

I could not breathe, walk, talk, dream, or eat without thinking of you.
Your smile, your eyes, your magnificent charismatic charm.
You were going to save the world, enlisting my help.

I was glad to give you my everything - my money, my life, my soul.
You pretended you wanted it all, except the money.
You tried desperately to talk me out of giving you that.
As did my friend, my folks, and others.
Who did not know you.

Yet, when I realized you had changed my check
And my account was nearly empty, I still believed in you.
I ran to get your side of the story, no tears yet, for it was a bank error.
Your apartment was empty. No forwarding address.
You blocked me from your phone.

You were my stars, my moon, my everything.
Not so much now.

It is terrible how women (and sometimes men, too) let down their natural defenses when it comes to love... I mean trust is necessary- but only after the person has shown they're worthy! Well written piece!

Thank you my friend. I am so horrified when I hear how some take advantage of the goodness and trust of another.

There's a burn...good story. Makes me think back about a co-worker's situation a few years ago.

This has happened to more than one woman I know. What?
