written in stone

On my knees is where I weep, my trembling hands pressed to the floor Tears fill my eyes like storms that break where love can live no more
I lay awake unable to sleep, my heart a restless tide for twenty years I built you up, kept hope alive inside
I waited patiently for love, believing time would heal your scars I endured and filled your cup while you lived locked behind those bars
I thought of nothing else but you, the world beyond felt small Every day they caged your life, a predator forced to crawl
But still I saw a light in you, a spark they couldn’t take Was I blinded by the lonely nights, believing love could break your ache
I dreamed you’d leave that place unbroken, whole enough to stand I tossed my wishes in a well, praying fate would change its plan
I wished away my final token on a dream of us through hell I was your sunshine — or so I thought, a warmth you couldn’t feel or smell
But the sun was not required where your shadowed path was set Your stare grew cold, a distant man filled with deep regret
I smiled through the hourglass, tried to fit your hand in mine but you reflected someone aged, worn down by stolen time
Where had all your youth escaped? It fled the cell, not the man Your body stayed behind too long for life to follow its plan
Still, I waited for your hand, believing love would cross the gate Never once did you confess that I was always too late
There came no call, no letter sent, no kiss to say goodbye You were dying out of sight, and I never saw the lie
Everything was NOT fine; you were fading day by day Now you’re just a number carved in stone on the prison grass where cold wind dances in the gray
My love stayed where love was never meant to last The stain of us I wear like crimson, a wound that echoes the long-lost past
It never leaves; tears streak my face remembering life with you If only they would lay me down beside you beneath the sky so blue
Never did I truly have you, though my heart stayed tied to your case Nothing in this world feels real , I drift through life in a daze

A lot of shared torment well shared here. everyline was clarity, the worst of it the personal loss so well defined, and my walk with you holds hope there is a new dawn awaiting you as this Catharsis comes to a new existence awaiting you, The poem I wrote "My Judas" is my story....I'm well and I wish you the same. You might start listening to Argent's song Hold Your Head Up
