Writing Letters
Were I to write a letter for
All persons known, a single each
To later read and thoughts explore-
What changes over time could teach!
Not only in the person's form,
But of my own ideas as well,
My lens to alter more and more
Until the truth I cannot tell!
My younger self saw with a gaze
Attuned to less descriptiveness
That lightened faults and offered praise
Instead of complete truthfulness.
Naive in part, another kind
A strict, swift shift to later years,
Maturity brings change in mind
Where thoughts, they lay on sober ears.
A letter then would written be
Of utmost care and thoughtfulness
Not to offend or cause to see
Of anything but decentness.
Of which is better to perceive
And chart a person's character
Depends on what the author sees
As his most mindful barrier.
Each action plays its toil on mind
And stamps a truth that one will hold
'Til gathered many over time,
A person's image starts to mold.
To read the change and view the letters
Would insight offer both parties
And for their understanding better
Each other's views and memories.
A letter speaking from the past
Or whispering old confidence
Can memory make live and last
And depths of caring bottomless!
