Would You?

Would you love me if I were to do
everything you said I should do?
If I was to follow in your every footstep,
living my life in imitation of you?

Would you respect me if I let you mold me
into what you think I should be?
If I was to sit back and be your puppet
while you happily pulled all the strings?

Would you care for me if I were to agree
with everything that you’ve said?
If I was to view your word as my law,
would you think you had it made?

Would you admire me if I gave up all my dreams
so that you could have your way?
If I would put all my trust in you,
though you let me down day after day?

Or would you pity me,
knowing that I had not an ounce of pride,
for letting you change who I was
on the inside as well as the outside?
