Words That I Can't Say

I wander the streets that my feet know you've roamed
Back when you were still here and this city still felt like home
I search for your shadow - love, where did you go?
Without you, I'm nothing, so I turn to what I know

Which is broken keys, broken melodies
A broken song for a broken me
I'm tongue-tied, can't you tell in every refrain?
The right words have left me, but the music remains

So I sing the words that I can never say
Watching as your memory fades more each day
I reach for you, but you slip away
And silence stands where you once would stay

I scream the thoughts that I can't release
An inward war that refuses to cease
In younger days, I was still in one piece
Now I'm picking up what remains of me

'Cause you're gone, and my heart's begun to fray
All I can do is sing the words that I can't say
