Words In Permanent Ink
Listen to poem:
Words in Permanent Ink
David J Walker
I remember
A piece of paper
As a prized possession
But it was nothing without the pen
And the ink and the words to
Go with them
And the meaning of the words
That made the paper
what it would become
But the work was not done
I remember
the paper
and how it glowed as if
on fire
I remember the ink and
How it bled the words from
The tip of the pen
I remember how carefully
One wrote
In order not to erase a single
One of them
I remember
the paper
Thinking
there would never be
another
But the words eventually
faded
from the hold of the
permanent ink jailer
and slipped into some yesterday
or maybe it was tomorrow
