Notes About The Poem

Why write poetry? Poetry is vital because it gives us a place to catch our breath in a chaotic world.

Words for the Numb

We scroll through blue-light feeds until our fingers ache,
Chasing a million artificial loops awake.
But right beneath the static of this crowded room,
A human voice is breathing in the digital gloom.
It weaves a quiet thread between your heart and mine,
Erasing all the distance of a timeline.
You read a stranger's grief from half the world away,
And suddenly you feel the words you couldn't say.
When sensory overload has left you feeling numb,
And you're just waiting for the next alert to come,
A simple poem gives your brain a place to stand,
A momentary shelter in a frantic land.
They capture what the history books might leave behind:
The quiet, daily struggles of a human mind.
Before the news can label who to blame or trust,
A poem screams out to keep us merciful and just.
It doesn't hide away in heavy, leather books;
It meets us in the streets and unexpected nooks.
It catches you by surprise upon a subway train,
Or flashes on a screen to soothe a bit of pain.
Let critics argue if the art is lost or dying,
Or if the internet is just a new way of trying.
We still need words to help us catch our breath,
To navigate our lives, our loneliness, and death.
