Woe

Floating. Alone in the darkness. The water beneath me cold and unforgiving. My breath calm and steady but my heart races regardless. I just want to sink but my body remains. I close my eyes tightly feel the cold like a knife piercing my veins. How did I get here in the middle of a war? One against myself what was it for? Hands reaching up holding me steady but now the weight of my past proves a little too heavy. I take a deep breath then let it all go. Finally I'm released. Finally. I'm free from this woe.
