Without Our Friends

Without our friends our lives would be
As flat as the horizon;
As bland as those commercials from
T-Mobile or Verizon.

There’d be no color in our world
And food would have no spices.
For entertainment we would be
Left to our own devices.

There’d be no one with whom to share
Some gossip or a giggle.
Our days would be so empty we’d have
Wiggle room to jiggle.

But with our friends there’s sunshine
Even if the rain is pouring.
The time together flies without
A minute that feels boring.

How fortunate we are if we
Have friendships that we treasure,
The consequence of which is
The reward of so much pleasure.

One of your finest! Of course, with a line like "wiggle room to jiggle" how could it not be? The opening salvo about the "minute mongers" had me grinning biggie until I remembered I soon have to face a phone upgrade:-( What a daunting challenge! Cheerduckins ~ j

Sadly, as the Roman poet Horace wrote, all friends and friendships end, and it's a pain lasts until we end. BTW,1st word in 1st line of 3rd stanza should be "There'd" not "There's." / M

i don't agree with that quote, maurice. at least it hasn't been the case for me so far with most of my friendships. thank you so much for catching the typo - it's been corrected. i appreciate it very much...
