Wisdom In Poetry

Brightly shines the light of wisdom in poetry
The collective thoughts of thinkers abound,
To bring new understanding and empathy.

The phrases need not be erudite or fancy,
With appropriate words poems imitate sound
Brightly shines the light of wisdom in poetry.

Calculated poems make one sad or happy,
Rippling with emotion, sometimes profound
To bring new understanding and empathy.

Even when a poem is trite or overly sappy,
It may be memorable, even anthology bound
Brightly shines the light of wisdom in poetry.

Most poems are better explained literally
By those who write them, yes, hands down,
To bring new understanding and empathy.

So, I will confess with a measure of finality
The obscure and ethereal are still around
Brightly shines the light of wisdom in poetry
To bring new understanding and empathy.
