Wired

The lights went out; the power died. We had to call Con Ed. Three hours later, it was fixed And this is what they said: A squirrel on a wire outside Decided he would chew it. He took one bite and that was all It took for him to do it. The loss was 20 houses wide, All due to foolish chomping. That squirrel should have stuck to Just his daily feats of romping. Instead, our power up and died And all because a squirrel fried.

Couldn't agree more with Kevin Shaw … and how about that squirrel fried? They should serve fried squirrel for lunch at the Con Ed cafeteria... Ever hear Zach Brown Band's song, "A little chicken fried?" They could substitute fried squirrel for the chicken. ('Course, that would blow their song to bits). … Bottom line: Another enjoyable Ilene Bauer special! :) gw

My son-in-law would do an happy dance upon reading your poem. I suggested he rename their home, "chez écureuil", although their huge oak tree basically serves as a café for hawks and owls. Another great write, Ilene! Aloha! Rico

oh dear poor little squirrel ...but at least he won't be inconveniencing you again and hopefully his family will have learned a lesson! We don't have squirrels over here, nor do we have many overhead power lines either!:-) hugs Jan xx
