Winter's Wind
She woke up alone again this morning
The sun rose up over the trees again
She looked out through the frosty window
And felt the chill of winter’s wind
She put on her coat and walked out of the cabin
And reached to pick dried flowers she had grown
Carefully she put them in her basket
And walked down the trail that led her to the stone
She brushed away the leaves that had gathered
And shivered one more time from the cold
She lost everything that ever mattered
Shedding tears from a story she never told
She heard a little voice say where’s daddy?
And saw the face of a child who had grown
She shook away the vision from her memory
And cried again from the sorrow of a broken home
Years ago he left her
And a little girl who never understood
The story she knew was such a sad one
She tried to explain but never really could
